The German University in Cairo hosted for the first time in Egypt; the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit on the 17th of November 2022. The summit coincided with the occasion of the IEEE Women in Engineering - WIE celebration of the 25th anniversary of its establishment, under the supervision of Dr. Eman Azab and Dr. Maggie Mashaly from the Faculty of Information Engineering and Technology - IET. The summit agenda was based on three main topics: leadership, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
The summit was held for two days. Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, GUC president attended the opening ceremony which was followed by a panel discussion in which a group of leading Egyptian women leaders in the information technology sector participated to tell their success stories in leadership positions. Panelists included:
- Dr. Aida Elsabban (Advisor to the Minister of State for Military Production)
- Dr. Heba Saleh (Chairwoman of the Information Technology Institute)
- Mrs. Mirna Aref (General Manager of Microsoft Egypt)
- Dr. Marwa Zaghow (Director of Strategies and Digital Transformation for Europe at Dell Technology).
Many eminent personalities participated with keynote speeches, including:
- Mrs. Noha Al Shaarawy (HR Director at Siemens EDA)
- Menna Al Razzaz (Senior Software Engineer at ST Microelectronics)
- Sally Radwan (Member of the OECD)
- Maria Alexandra Paun (President of IEEE WIE Region 8)
- Dr. Iman Al-Mandouh (Quality Manager at Siemens EDA)
- Christine Safwat (Executive Director of Educate Me Foundation)
- Dr. Rasha Hassan (Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the GUC)

- Prof. Ahmed Madian (Secretary of IEEE Egypt and Director of the Electronics and Computer Engineering Program at Nile University)
The International Leadership Summit was sponsored by Siemens EDA, STMicroelectronics, and Si-Ware Systems. Attendees included participants from Egypt, India, Jordan, and many other countries.
